The Beginnings of a new journery...

A little bit about me...

Hi, I’m Jaclyn - the person behind everything you see here. For as long as I can remember, sewing and designing have been my world. From the moment I could hold a doll, I was busy making clothes for her. As I’ve grown, I’ve realised my true passion lies in the "doing" - the sewing, the construction, and the design.
To be honest, there’s an elitism in the fashion industry that I have zero interest in. Am I allowed to say that? Probably not. But it doesn't change the fact that the industry doesn't always have the best reputation for being relatable or people-friendly. (I hope I can change that for you)
I’ll be "forty-something" again this year, living in a small house on a small section with the most abundant tiny garden you’ll ever see. I absolutely love gardening; I come from a long line of green thumbs and I’m more than happy to keep that tradition going. Because of a few food intolerance's - no dairy, no eggs, and no caffeine - I’ve spent a lot of time finding creative (and tasty) alternatives.
That’s me in a nutshell, but let’s finish off with...

Five quickfire questions:

  • Favourite flower: Dahlia - Who Me

  • Favourite plant to grow: Chillies

  • Favourite fabric: Linen

  • Favourite colour: Pink (with a side of purple and green)

  • Favourite food: Bread (if it’s bready, I love it!)

A new Jaclyn M Journey..

Now that you know a bit about me, let’s take a wander through the studio.

  • Fashion.

  • Food.

  • Gardening.

It starts to make a bit more sense now, doesn’t it?

I started with fashion. Creating my own label has been a lifelong dream, but it’s always a bit of a balancing act - matching that creative drive to make things with the need for less "stuff" in the world. That’s why I’ve decided to keep things narrow and focused. Each season, I’ll offer a small number of looks that truly sparked joy for me while I was making them.
Then there’s Bare Thread Patterns -  my range of PDF sewing patterns. My hope is to give you the tools to create your own designer garments using fabrics you actually love. I know first-hand how frustrating the "Big Four" pattern companies instructions can be, so I’ve made mine user-friendly and straightforward. If I can remove that "pulling my hair out" feeling for you, I’ve done my job!
This leads me to the food and gardening. These are my "me time" moments. They’re the things I do to step away from the screens and the sewing machines to find a bit of headspace. Since they’re such a huge part of my daily life, I thought, why not share that peace of mind with you all?
Hopefully, you can take away a little reminder to make time for yourself during the workday - no matter how small that moment is. And of course, maybe you'll pick up a delicious recipe or a new addition for your garden along the way
